‘Growing Pains’ is a body of work exploring Escapism, the Video-Game "Animal Crossing: New Horizons" and Ellie's personal journey with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Animal Crossing: New Horizons” provides a paradise of endless possibilities at a time where we are unable to leave our homes as freely as we used to. Dealing with everyday life can be challenging already and “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” gives a chance for people to enjoy their day-to-day lives.

Ellie has used the Video-Game "Animal Crossing: New Horizons” as a virtual playground. For her to create this body of work, she decided to try something different/"out-of-the-box". Photographing the every-day; juxaposing the real and the digital.

For Ellie, escapism is more important than ever before. Having a place you can go to where everything can be consistent and predictable.
